A product call Even-Up is available if required when wearing a cam walker or a surgical shoe. This simple device fits over the shoe on the uninjured side to equalise a patients limb length. This can often solve the problem of associated back, hip or knee stress while wearing the boot or shoe.
Your podiatrist will advise you how long you should wear the boot for. Depending upon your injury, it may be somewhere between two weeks and two months. This is often determined by X-ray or ultrasound results. Gentle exercises might be prescribed to maintain range of movement when this is clinically appropriate.
The podiatrist will also make suggestions about managing the condition once you are out of the boot. This might include footwear recommendations, orthotics, or a strengthening program. You should also follow their advice regarding return to your normal activities.

When a Moon Boot or Cam Waker is fitted by a Podiatrist, it may be claimable on your Private Health Insurance (depending on your policy wording and level of cover)
Surgical Shoes (also called Post-Op shoes)
Post-Op shoes, work in a similar way to a moon boot. The shoe restricts movement to aid recover. Often used after foot surgery, these are also prescribed for such condition as toe fractures, foot ulcers or wound management following surgery.
We are often asked how long the patient will need to use a surgical shoe after a toe fracture. It does depend on the individual, but generally most bone fractures will heal in six weeks. If you have a hairline fracture or a stress fracture, we expect the bone to heal more quickly. If you have a displaced fracture, healing time might be longer. The most important thing is to follow your doctor or podiatrist’s instructions.
The patient will be able to continue to walk on the foot during recovery. The velcro straps accommodate dressings and bandaging. The solid structure of the base of the shoe changes how your foot functions and supports your weight.
Your doctor or podiatrist will recommend, how long you should continue to wear a surgical shoe as this will depend on your individual foot condition.
When prescribed by a podiatrist, a surgical shoe may be claimable on your Private Health Insurance (extras cover) depending on the policy wording and the level of cover.
