We are uniquely qualified, experienced, and equipped to assess features and variations and their implications on your running gait. We take a biomechanical approach to both the problem and the solution.
Our 3D Run Lab assessment is thorough and includes a detailed gait analysis particularly relevant for athletes involved in running type sport. The system caters for both elite and everyday runners. Using this assessment, we can develop a strategy with you to manage your injuries and to improve your performance. Management can include technique, posture, footwear advice, orthotics, taping, bracing, padding. Training advice is critical to recovery.
Madeleine Murray is an elite runner who has competed nationally and international at a high level. She competes in 800 and 1500 metre events, along with cross country events. Maddie makes running look easy and has represented Great Britain and Scotland over both cross country and track and field.
Maddie has a particular interest in the management of sport related foot and ankle injuries and is passionate about the roles of load management, foot biomechanics and strength and conditioning. Her interest in sports podiatry stems from her own experience with various lower limb injuries which fuels her passion for devising lower limb injury prevention and management plans to assist people of all abilities, ages, and sports to return to full fitness. Maddie utilises the 3D RunLab system for injury prevention and management.
We also conduct assessments of pain-free but unusual walking and running styles, providing ethical and evidenced based assessment, advice, and reassurance.
Whether you are an elite or an everyday runner, it is important to know the difference between muscle soreness and pain. Some muscle soreness is normal when you are running especially when you are returning from a break, increasing your speed or distance. It will resolve naturally. Pain is different. It may be an injury that requires assessment and management, so it does not stop you from doing what you love.
See your podiatrist if you have foot and lower limb pain from running. During your appointment the podiatrist will listen to your history of running and injuries. They will take a biomechanical approach to assess your walking and running mechanics. They will assess your shoes and wear patterns on your runners. The gait analysis will assist in the diagnosis of injury and also identify any potential overuse problems from your running style, foot abnormalities or footwear selection.
The biomechanical assessment will consider range of movement, flexibility limitations, muscle strength and gait analysis. These findings, along with your injury history, footwear and running goals will form the basis of a plan to improve your running and minimise your injuries.
The running plan may include running technique or training changes, footwear advice and custom orthotics to improve your foot mechanics.
