Nail & skin care
Regular foot care is undertaken in a professional, clean environment with sterilised instruments. Podiatry is a registered profession, so a medical pedicure will include skin, callous and nail care to keep your feet looking and feeling great without the worry of attending an unhygienic nail bar.
The Podiatrist will complete an evaluation of skin and nail conditions affecting your feet during your treatment and provide necessary advice to you. Commons conditions discussed and treated during general foot care include:
- Tinea and Fungal Infections
- Warts
- Toenail care (ingrown, thickened and discoloured)
- Corns
- Callous
- Ulcers
- Blisters
Ingrown toenails are a common, painful problem. When left untreated, they can also become infected. Mostly ingrown toenail can be fixed with simple filing, packing and advice about foot care at home.
Those nails that are painful, swollen, or infected require a simple nail surgery to correct the concern and prevent the nail from causing future problems. The surgery is completed in a sterile surgery room by our experienced Podiatrists. You will be in the clinic for one hour while the procedure is completed under local anaesthetic. We perform these simple surgeries every day.
Fungal nails are very common. In fact, 1 in 4 people over the age of 65 have this problem. It requires accurate diagnosis to make the correct treatment decision. It is common for our new patients to describe years of trying different and ineffective treatment. Getting the correct diagnosis and advice is critical.
We use a new, quick, in-clinic test to accurately determine the presence of a fungal nail condition. From diagnosis, we will develop a treatment plan that is clinically appropriate, has the best results and is cost effective. If the test is negative, we work with your GP to direct other pathology tests to determine the cause of your nail condition. Once diagnosed, we develop a treatment and management plan with you.
Warts are a common problem, highly contagious and should be treated as soon as they appear. Often, they appear hard, grainy, and painful. We have a comprehensive range of treatment options including chemical solutions, liquid nitrogen (freezing), dry needling and surgery.
Matthew Dilnot regularly receives referrals for the surgical removal of warts that have been resistant to conservative treatment or are causing pain. Matt completes this minor surgery in our surgical room under local anaesthetic.
Providing essential foot care for people with Diabetes is a role we take seriously. Those with diabetes are prone to significant foot problems and require regular assessment to ensure they are not developing complications that can include ulcers, nerve damage or circulation impairment.
The Podiatry team are trained and experienced in performing thorough Diabetes Assessments and providing comprehensive reports to GP’s and Specialists. These regular assessments include testing blood flow, nerve responses, ulceration and other risk factors.
Remember, if you have Diabetes, act quickly if you develop a foot concern to minimise the risk to your foot.
KERYFLEX is a medical grade restoration system. It is a painless, in-clinic application that restores the appearance of natural nails with a cosmetic treatment. It is immediate and the result is natural looking nails.
The Podiatrist will remodel damaged nails affected by fungus, defects, and trauma. The damaged nail is prepared, KERYFLEX resin is applied and hardened with a UV light. The cosmetic nail is shaped and sealed. The composite resin creates a flexible, but durable non-porous that allows the remaining natural nail to grow underneath.
Matthew Dilnot, Madeleine Murray and Stephanie Carter are skilled in using KERYFLEX.
The management of pressure is important to prevent skin breakdown and ulceration which can occur with illness, age, foot deformities and change in activity.
We stock an and extensive range of silicon pressure care to improve comfort and aid recovery.
Your Podiatrist can also create a custom-made device using Ottoform for more complicated foot deformities.
