At the Melbourne Foot Clinic all of our Podiatrists perform nail surgery regularly. Ingrown toenails are a common problem and result in a large amount of pain and often become infected when left untreated. Ingrown toenails generally occur when the side of the nail curves excessively, if the nail has been cut too short or when the nail is simply too wide.
How to get rid of ingrown toenails
Conservative treatment of ingrown toenails involves cutting the nail straight across, re-shaping the nail or even placing padding under the nail. Whilst conservative management is successful in the majority of cases, some ingrown toenails require a minor procedure to correct the problem and prevent the nail from causing problems into the future.
